Seminar on  Deceased Organ Donor Transplantation

The gap between the available organ donors and the need of organ is increasing. Many patients are losing life waiting for organ donation. In developed countries 80 % of transplants are done by deceased organ donation, in India it is less than 10%. Co-ordinated efforts from doctors working with trauma intensive care units, social workers, media, need to be increased with the aim to reduce the suffering of end stage renal organ failure patient’s life. To promote the cause of “Gift of life’’ and also to observe Organ Donation Day i.e 13thaugust 2017. A very informative seminar was organized by MPU Hospital, Nadiad. To raise awareness among the people regarding deceased organ donation, MSW/TC department, MPU Hospital took initiation by organizing  a seminar on ‘Deceased Organ Donor Transplant’.

Dr.A.K Rastogi, Medical Director, welcomed the guests. Dr.Sishir Gang (M.D,DNB) Chairman, Nephrology Department, delivered a talk on concept of Brain Death, Dr. Umapati Hegde (M.D.,DNB) Vice Chairman, Nephrology Department, delivered a talk on deceased talk on deceased transplant process, Dr.Hardik Patel (M.D.,DNB) Consultant Nephrologist delivered talk on THOA’ 94 Rules. Dr. (Mrs.) Sujata Mohan Rajapurkar (MA,PhD), Medical Social Worker And Transplant Co-ordinator delivered a speech on grief counseling. Dr. Arvind Ganpule, (M.S DNB) Consultant Urologist overviewed the technicalities of Deceased Donor Transplant Surgery. Ms. Prachi Shah (MSW) delivered a talk on transplant co-ordination process – Deceased Donor Transplant Surgery. Members of the Ethics committee meeting were invited. Programme In-charge of IRF (Indian Renal Foundation) Purvi Shah and 18 volunteeers from Ahmedabad, Surat, Mehsana attended the seminar.IRF has been working since 15 years in 7 cities namely Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Mehasana, Bhuj.

A special mention of Shri Chinubhai Shah (Chairman,IRF), Shri Maheshbhai Shah, Shri Vinubhai Pandal, a volunteer of IRF, whose wife received kidney from deceased donor. He immensely appreciated the new lease of life given by a deceased donor. He has whole heartedly joined IRF to promote the cause of organ donation.
